About the use of this stencil, Gomyo writes:

If anyone is interested in putting this stencil around their city that  is totally cool. I ask only that anyone who is actually going to do the pilgrimage in
Shikoku and plans to take the stencil with them, please only put up the stencil along the pilgrimage route, in a way that is helpful to walking pilgrims
and respectful of local inhabitants.  Better yet, make your own, personal stencil, to use as a marker.  It will be much more rewarding and add to the
flavor of the henro marking culture.
