TheWorst Horse.Net: The Pop-/Sub-/Dharma-culture site

THERE A LOT OF PLACES TO GET TOGETHER WITH PEOPLE AND TO MEDITATE OR OTHERWISE ENGAGE IN BUDDHIST PRACTICE.

WHICH IS GREAT.

BUT:
WHAT MAKES THE PLACE YOU GO TO
THE PLACE YOU GO BACK TO?

With the acceptance and commercialization of Buddhism into modern culture, there comes, naturally, more Buddhists. Or at least, more people interested in seeing what meditation and other forms of practice are all about.

Of course, one of the best ways to find a place to start practicing is to search on the web. There are good directories on-line. (You'll find what are probably the three best in the "Places to Meditate" section of our homepage.) And you know how to Google, of course. So finding a center or practice-group's website shouldn't be too tough.

Rep your sangha.

Send an email to:

You'll likely be able to figure out the basics from such sites: where they're located, if they have a relationship with a teacher or teachers, a basic schedule. Hopefully they've included some written or mp3 dharma-talks, or a little history of the place. But what's missing, often, are the voices of the people they serve.

So rep your sangha. Tell us what makes makes your center or practice-group cool, why it's right for you. We'll post a selection of your responses here, so others can get a more personal sense of what makes a place to practice a place to go back to.

To help get you started, here are some things to consider telling us:

> Your name, the name of your sangha, and their website if they have one.  (Be sure to let us know if you want your name or handle linked to your blog, MySpace page, or website -- and please provide the link.).
> What makes the place feel like "home" to you?
> In what cool or unusual ways does your sangha get together or practice? (For example, we've noticed that a bunch places are now hosting "movie nights," where sangha-mates get together and watch movies that may have Buddhist themes or a relationship to practice -- anything from videos of specfic teachings to films like Groundhog Day or Fight Club.)
> Who goes there? A particularly interesting mix of people?

(Of course, you should tell us only as much as you feel like / feel comfortable with.)

We'll start posting responses here shortly after they start coming in, so get writing, and check back soon.
